The path to professional fulfillment is often paved with transformative experiences that carve our skills and reshape our perspectives.
To begin with, I started at Sheridan College with a 2-year (4 semesters) Computer Programming diploma. I was in my 2nd semester when I learned about the co-op integrated programs and about the opportunity to transfer into one. I took the opportunity and got transferred to a 3-year advanced diploma with 3 co-op work terms. With hard work, focus, and dedication, fortunately, I was able to secure all these co-op terms.
Over the course of these 3 enlightening co-op terms, I was fortunate enough to venture into the tech-savvy corridors of BlackBerry as an Enterprise Technical Support Analyst and also explored the dynamic landscape of TD Bank as an IT Developer. Join me as I unravel the chapters of this enriching journey and unveil the lessons, challenges, and triumphs that have fortified my foundation in the tech world.
My first co-op adventure led me into the heart of technological dynamism at BlackBerry, an industry leader renowned for its groundbreaking solutions. As an Enterprise Technical Support Analyst, I found myself navigating a labyrinth of complex technical challenges that really helped me to gain technical and interpersonal skills. The difficulties and challenges helped me to change my perspective on how I looked at issues. I eventually learned skills that I knew would be really helpful for me in the future. Two of the topmost have to be decision-making and time management.
For my second co-op term, I was a returning student for the same role at BlackBerry. I decided to come back to the same role as there was much more to learn and follow. Like my first co-op experience, this was a fun and great learning experience. Along with learning new skills, I was also able to participate in various events/ activities across the campus. They had a bunch of fun learning activities and events for co-op students.
After finishing my 2 co-op terms typically as a support analyst, I wanted to explore something different. So, I started applying for software developer roles and ended up securing a role as an IT developer at TD Bank. With this experience, I was able to apply the coding knowledge learned at college in the real business world.
Conclusion
These roles demanded not only a deep understanding of the intricacies of technology but also effective communication skills to decode and address clients' concerns. Each day brought forth a unique puzzle, a new enigma to unravel. This experience honed my ability to think on my feet, communicate with clarity, and approach intricate issues with an analytical mindset.
These experiences really added value and built my confidence in the corporate world which eventually helped me to secure a full-time position after I graduated.
